Usable by everyone.
Mental health work should not be harder to reach than the people it serves. Here is how this site is built, what we check, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Our commitment
Our website was designed with accessibility in mind and checked against WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. If you have trouble using any part of the site, please email info@societydmh.org and we’ll fix it.
WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium. You can read it at w3.org/TR/WCAG21.
What we do
The habits that keep the site usable, applied to everything we publish.
- Every image has a text alternative. Photographs and figures are described, and images that only decorate are marked so screen readers skip them rather than read a stray label.
- Every page works from a keyboard. Navigation, forms and tabs can be reached and operated without a mouse, with a visible focus ring throughout, and a “Skip to content” link comes first on every page.
- Documents are tagged PDFs. When we publish a report or a prospectus as a PDF, it carries a heading structure and reading order rather than being a flat scan.
- Videos are captioned. Recordings and webinars are published with captions available.
- Motion is optional. If your device asks for reduced motion, animation on this site is turned off.
- We check periodically. We run an accessibility review of the site and fix what it turns up.
Known limits
Places where we know the site is not yet where it should be.
- Some older PDFs. A few documents — including the Implementation Playbook — are hosted on our previous site and we cannot yet confirm every one is tagged. If you need a version you can read with a screen reader, email us and we will send one.
- Third-party services. The join form is run by Mailchimp and donations by PayPal. We choose the accessible option where one exists, but we do not control how those services behave.
Found something we have not listed? That is the most useful email we can get. Write to info@societydmh.org and tell us the page and what happened.
